So these are some of the best laptops for content creation. It may not be the easiest job, but somebody has to do it. It’s a necessity a tool that can help you measure up with the rest of the online content creators.
They say that bigger is better, as the saying goes and sometimes you simply need a larger screen. The 15.6 inch provides you with plenty of space to run multiple apps at once while also ensuring that you always have enough screen real estate to get things done. However, the downside to this is that a larger screen means a heavier laptop, but don’t be scared off by this as it’s still relatively lightweight compared to other options on the market.
1 Dell XPS 15 7590
Best Laptop Display
- OLED Infinity Edge display
- Supreme processing capabilities
- Powerful graphics
- Elegant and slim design
- As expensive as a Macbook Pro with high-end configuration
Display: 15.6-inch up to 4K OLED Non-touch/ 4K IPS Touch display | Processor: Up to 9th generation Intel Core i9-9980HK | Processor: NVIDIA GTX 1650 with 4 GB GDDR5 | RAM: Up to 64 GB DDR4 | Battery: 97 WHr | Storage: Up to 2 TB SSDCheck Price
Dell’s XPS range has always heaped praise from fans, owing to their gorgeous displays and is an incredible performance oozing machine. Dell brought an air of refinement to the otherwise inundated windows laptop designs with sleek and solid aluminum casing and exquisite build quality that was once only found in Apple products.
The XPS 15 7590 has improved a lot over the previous generation XPS laptops. It is one of the only laptops providing an OLED 4K display along with other powerful hardware, like an octa-core processor and up to 64-GB of memory support. With this InfinityEdge 4k OLED display, octa-core processor, and NVIDIA GTX 1650 at hand, the laptop fulfills the wishes of people from tons of fields, whether you belong to a writing background, do professional content creation, or play games in your free time.
The 9th Gen Processor is supremely faster than the previously used six-core processor in the previous generation, by up to 45 percent, thanks to two additional cores along with much faster Turbo clocks. The graphics card, NVIDIA GTX 1650, is also much better than most of the graphics cards you will find in laptops with thin profiles, although the graphics card will not be able to handle the 4K display if you are thinking to use the laptop for gaming as well.
Overall, this laptop is our top recommendation and is a very innovative product and should be able to handle all your needs, although the price of the laptop is much more than you would see on a mainstream Windows laptop and gives more like a “Macbook” feeling.
2. Apple Macbook Pro 15 Inch 2019 Model
- High-Resolution Display
- Much better software support than windows
- DCI-P3 color gamut support
- Touch bar maybe gimmicky for some people
- Quite expensive
Display: 15.4-inch 2880×1800 resolution display | Processor: Up to Intel Core i9-9980HK | Graphics Card: Up to Radeon Pro Vega 20 with 4 GB HBM-2 | RAM: Up to 32 GB | Battery: 83.6 WHr | Storage: Up to 4TB SSDCheck Price
Macbooks are a constant reminder of class and quality, the likes of which have only been adopted by other manufacturers not very long ago. Apple has been in the ‘premium’ game forever. It has been making sleek and stylish aluminum-bodied laptops while everyone else opted for plastic, although things have changed now. Other companies have also upped their game, yet Apple has not moved a muscle to change their design philosophy. That’s some high level of consistency right there.
The Macbook Pro 15 is yet again another reminder that still leaves the Premium status with Apple. The same solid construction, monotone color, and reasonably weighed body are a constant nod towards quality, durability, and function. While some may be tired of the old design I am a fan of the familiar design that doesn’t change with every ‘nth’ iteration of processors.
The concern about the performance of the Macbook Pro is a thing of the past now and you will find the latest high-end processors and graphics cards within. With a custom-order configuration, you can install Intel Core i9 9980HK and AMD Radeon RX VEGA 20 as well, although Core i9-9980H and Radeon Pro 560X are available standardly. Apart from hardware specifications, you get premium software support from the developers and can enjoy a lag-free experience for most of the content creation software.
The slim form factor, high-resolution display, butterfly switch keys, and the super humongous force touch trackpad make writing a pleasure. The 2880×1800 Retina display can let you work on so many docs at a single time than you would even care to count while the DCI-P3 color gamut support greatly aids artists. The Touch Bar, which many of you may regard as a gimmick, can be quite handy in many applications. I found myself using it quite a bit during long writing sessions.
With a very hefty price tag, Apple Macbook Pro might not be suited for your budget but if you can afford this machine, it will accompany you for a long time before you will feel the need to upgrade.
3. Microsoft Surface Pro 6
- Full Day Battery Life with moderate use
- Multi-angle kickstand that can go up to 165 degrees
- Microsoft pen provides lots of features
- Keyboard and Pen have to be purchased separately
- No USB Type-C port
Display: 12.3-inch 2736 x 1824 resolution touch display | Processor: Up to Intel Core i7-8650U | RAM: Up to 16GB | Battery: Up to 13.5 hours | Storage: Up to 1 TB SSDCheck Price
It wasn’t until the 3rd generation of surface pros that Microsoft truly made a mark in the industry. Realizing there is a market for 2-in-1 hybrids, many manufacturers were not slow to copy, yet Microsoft’s implementation remained unexcelled (still is) when it came to portable, hybrids that are slim and functional.
There is a reason why we have kept Surface Pro 6 at this position and not on the top. The processing capabilities of this device are way below those of the listed laptops above, yet you will have access to innovative gadgets like Microsoft pen and 2-in-one device. The keyboard and the pen have to be bought separately, which is a shame to be honest, although this turns into an advantage for those who are not interested in the accessories.
Smooth performance and whole day battery life were never a thing until the Surface Pros wowed everyone and changed their perception. You can use Surface Pro 6 for almost anything you want, more so for hours before you need to finally go find a power source. But if writing is all you want from the Pro 6, you are about to have one of the best writing machines out there.
Surface Pro 6 can let you scrawl and scrawl all day long with occasional YouTube-ing, Spotify-ing, and Facebook-ing or whatever other “ings” you regularly cling to, before finally reaching out for an outlet. A machine that is both lightweight and capable is all you need for on-the-go writing making that premium price tag not so far-fetched after all.
Needless to say, you will not be held back by the hardware, looks, and performance that still haven’t been beaten by any other in the same category. Go for this if money is the last thing you worry about and just want portability and performance, hand in hand.
4. Asus Zenbook UX331UA
- Sturdy aluminum chassis gives it a premium look
- Excellent value for money
- No dedicated graphics card
- Battery life is not so good
- Comes with a lot of bloatware pre-installed
Display: 13.3-inch FHD IPS display | Processor: Up to Intel Core i7-8550U | RAM: 8GB | Battery: 50 WHr | Storage: Up to 1TB SSDCheck Price
As we move down the price ladder, Asus Zenbook UX331UA greets us with its lightweight aluminum chassis, a full HD screen, and a 256GB SSD, not too bad for all of that under the premium mark. The UX331UA upgrades the processor of the previous similarly named model to Intel’s 8th gen Processor while keeping the other bits consistent. It was a shame though when we found out that the battery life was sacrificed to make up for the added performance, by 1.5 hours.
The thin profile Aluminium-alloy gives a premium feel to the touch that is reminiscent of a MacBook Air pretty much justifying its price tag. The keyboard is comfortable to type on for longer periods due to its 1.6 mm key travel. The trackpad is not all that wonderful though. Being stiff and slippery it can be more of a hindrance than you would expect. Hence an external wireless mouse would be better for a frustration-free mouse experience.
The 8th Gen Zenbook produces enough brightness for you to write and type in broad daylight. The 302-nit brightness would help you do that perfectly while its 2.7-pound weight will allow you to take it with you anywhere and everywhere. As for the performance is concerned, while it is no slouch; it is not a beast either. You can get a decent amount of multitasking done without any lag switching between the tabs, thanks to the quad-core processor, however, 8GB of memory will be a hindrance for content creators. There is a bit of bloatware installed in the laptop firsthand, however, that can be easily cleaned.
The M2 SSD is plenteous for countless documents and is fast enough for content creation as well, however, the lack of a dedicated graphics card makes it not fit for content creators who want to take advantage of GPU hardware acceleration. The battery life is not as good as the listed laptops above and the major reason for that is due to the battery being 50 WHr only.
Overall, ASUS Zenbook provides an excellent value to those people who want to focus on the processing power and do not need the graphical capabilities, and especially if you are a writer looking for a solid productivity device, look no further than this 8th Gen Zenbook.
5. Acer Swift 7
- Super portable machine
- Extremely slim design
- Not so competitive in price
- Dual-core processor
- 3-cell Battery
Display: 14-inch FHD IPS display | Processor: Intel Core i7-8500Y | RAM: Up to 16 GB | Battery: 3-Cell 2770 mAh | Storage: 512 GB SSDCheck Price
Acer is a well-known brand and produces one of the most powerful machines when it comes to processing capabilities. Acer Swift 7 is not one of those powerful machines and focus on the form factor majorly for superior portability. This is one of the thinnest laptops in the world, while the sleek factor is literally at “infinity”. This laptop is one of the most attractive laptops when it comes to form-factor.
The performance of the laptop is nothing special though, with a dual-core 8th generation Intel processor and Intel integrated graphics at hand. These specifications are not good enough for content creators but if you are a professional writer, these specifications will be more than enough for you. The 3-cell battery is not very good but this had to be done to attain this much thinness, however, the low-power components are extremely energy efficient and the laptop provides sufficient battery timing nonetheless.
You may be wondering what is it doing at number five amongst others listed above. Well, the major reason for that is the price of the laptop. The performance of the laptop is not suitable for the price and the premium price is only due to the portability and slim and sleek design. If you want to buy a premium laptop only for writing, then this laptop will suit you greatly, although the laptop’s performance is not so good for serious workloads.
Expertly constructed of machined aluminum, carbon fiber, or woven glass fiber, XPS laptops feature high-performance components packed into smaller, thinner and lighter designs. Dell XPS laptops and 2-in-1 touchscreen laptops also feature stunning displays, premium materials, and the performance you’d expect from Dell.
Inspiron laptops are some of the best laptops for writers who want easy-to-use technology that simplifies their life while delivering all of the essentials. Inspiron laptops and 2-in-1s are built with thoughtful design, lightweight materials, and a wide range of features and options. Robust memory and storage and up to the latest generation Intel® and AMD processors deliver all the performance writers need in a compact design. Flexible 2-in-1s transition easily between laptop, tent, tablet, or stand modes for more ways to interact with the device.
Roomy keys and touchpads also allow for easy navigation. The lift hinges can also create a slight angle for those looking for more comfort while typing, and optional ComfortView Plus displays also reduce harmful blue light emissions without sacrificing true-to-life colors. On 2-in-1s, optional active pens allow writers to take notes, sketch or write seamlessly and comfortably on the touchscreen. Inspiron devices are so versatile that they are not only an excellent fit for writers but are also considered some of the best laptops for students who need a device that can go anywhere and do anything.
Dell makes it easy to perform a laptop comparison, evaluating the features and specs of different models side-by-side to see which laptop best suits your needs.
The fact is that content creation tends to rely on a lot of different types of software, like Premiere Pro and After Effects. You’ll also probably want some sort of sound editing software like Audition, or you might edit video footage with Final Cut Pro. And if there are any programs for editing images or photos, those will need to be present as well. If you plan to do any 3D design work, you’ll need a keyboard that has the proper keys to use certain shortcuts and commands. All of this means that a typical content creation laptop will have a variety of ports, expansion slots, and available RAM. This ensures that you won’t run into any issues with compatibility or bottlenecks as you move from one program to another—all because of your hardware choices.
