Free Apps to Create Graphics

Create custom graphics by using our free apps. We offer a variety of apps: App Studio, Layer Effects, PicsArt Photo Studio, Collage Maker and Photo Gallery. You can create graphics for your social media profile or blog post, or use the current trend to create unique images for your home or office.

Create your own graphics using a variety of free, downloadable applications. The interface of each app determines how we interact with it. Here are some different layouts to help you decide which application is the best for you.

What is the Best Free Graphic Design Software?

If your research turns up a problem — your images aren’t compelling, your text is hard to read and your color scheme hurts the eyes — you need a simple solution.

Free graphic design software offers the ability to customize the look and feel of your site without breaking the bank. But with a host of options on the market, which is the best fit for your business?

Two broad factors impact this outcome: Your current graphical ability and your potential use case. For example, if you have no experience with graphic tools, look for a solution that’s simple, streamlined, and does most of the work behind-the-scenes. If you have a graphic design background or natural inclination, tools with more robust customization and control may be a better fit.

If you’re planning to revamp your entire site with new colors, images, logos, and menus, you’ll need an in-depth solution that provides this level of control. If you’re starting small with minor changes to your color scheme or image quality, this kind of granular adjustment isn’t necessary.

So which software tool is the best fit for your business? Here’s a look at some of the best free graphic design tools and some pros and cons for each.

Platform: Windows

DesignWizard ranks among the best free graphic design software for beginners. The tool offers a large database of images along with a host of free templates (over 10,000), plus a simple, easy-to-use interface. While you can also quickly create custom templates, DesignWizard excels as a front-line, free graphic design tool for beginners.

Despite an easy-to-use interface and no upfront costs, it’s worth noting that most of the more powerful options in DesignWizard are only available in its for-pay version.

klex editing app

Want to create beautiful graphics at warp speed? Well, Klex has got you covered. This application is best used to customize visual assets with stock photos, vectors, and illustrations, and add in text, fonts, and backgrounds that meet your needs.

Add your own photography or use the stock photos they provide. What I like about Klex is this platform gives you some space to mess around with a whole host of effects. It’s also not hard to use.

Klex uses the same technology behind Gravit Designer, but the aim here is to give users something much easier to work with. The app includes templates for everything from properly sized social graphics to posters, cards, and blog graphics.

Pixlr web photo editor

If you need to use photos in your social feed, your website, your articles, Pixlr allows you to play with a handful of effects, overlays, and borders, for free and on your device of choice.

Pixlr isn’t bloated with complicated features. It does what you expect a photo editor to do, fix red-eye, crop and resize your images.

I will say this—Pixlr is not the tool for experimenting with different effects or creating something that transcends the original image. I use it to resize photos without the messing with the aspect ratio or adding a bit more saturation to a photo. Nothing game-changing, but convenient nonetheless.

 Setka Editor

Platforms: Windows, Mac

Setka bills itself as “everything you need to create content that converts.” This graphic design software is primarily focused on delivering enhanced content branding across your website, ad campaigns, and social media posts — and works from within your current CMS or in the cloud.

The caveat? Although the Setka Editor is free to try for two weeks, companies will need to select a plan — Starter, Pro, or Enterprise — to unlock the full feature set and keep using Setka.

Platforms: Windows, Mac, Android, iOS

Whether you’re looking to create an ebook, infographic, business card, or email header, Canva has a template to simplify your process. The free web design tool, developed by non-designers, offers professional, easy-to-customize templates for just about any design need you can think of.

The drawback? You might need to invest in the paid version or try one of the more advanced free graphic design softwares as you skill up. While Canva’s free version is great for new designers working with templates, you can access more complex tools and features — such as team sharing — in the paid version.

Canva is an all-in-one tool for novice creators. It’s one of the best design apps to use when you’re on a budget. The web-based app comes with a template for everything from Facebook posts to wedding invites, resumes, and logos.

Where I think Canva really shines is in the realm of social media graphics. They have a ton of free templates you can customize with your own copy and images. Start with a template, then fill in the boxes to suit your needs.

While the tool is free to use, some templates, elements, and stock photos cost a dollar or two apiece. What’s nice about this pricing plan is, you can pay for “premium” graphics a la carte instead of committing to a monthly plan you don’t necessarily need.

 Adobe Spark

Platforms: Windows, Mac, Android, iOS

adobe spark user interface

Adobe Spark is a free alternative to the company’s popular, for-pay Adobe Illustrator. While it’s not nearly as full-featured, it does support integration with other Adobe products. It’s easy to use and it comes with a host of free templates. If you’re looking to quickly create posters or videos for ad campaigns, Spark is a great choice.

The potential drawback? A limited feature set makes this a great starting point for beginners but less useful for more in-depth projects or experienced designers. The good news is that Spark is available for both web and mobile, meaning you can design anywhere, anytime.

Adobe Spark is a winning combination of simplicity and power. The app differs from other Adobe offerings like Photoshop and Illustrator in that there’s virtually no learning curve.

All you do is log in, and choose from a selection of Spark’s professional templates. They’ve got pre-sized social templates, posters, as well as web pages and video options. Once you select an option, you can customize by adding your own photos or one from Adobe’s royalty-free library.

Basic features are free, while the full lineup is available for $9.99 per month or as part of the $19.99/month Creative Cloud Subscription.

Adobe Spark brings something more to the table than some of the other items we’ve listed. With the video and web design tools, plus photo collages and social templates, non-designers finally have access to a creative suite that does more than add text to an image.

Best for: Collaborative projects
Platforms: Windows, Linux, Chrome OS, Web Browser

Vectr is a free graphics software that lets you create vector graphics using a simple platform. Vectr is available as a downloadable program, or you can use the software online in your web browser.

The website includes a variety of helpful tutorials ranging from how to get started to creating beautiful professional presentations. You can also use the software to create business cards, typographic logos, social media headers, memes, resumes and more. In addition to the tutorials, you can also check out Vectr’s user guide for a more comprehensive description of how to use the software.

Perhaps one of the best features that Vectr provides is real-time URL sharing. You can send anyone a Vectr document for real-time collaboration online. You can create and edit designs live from both the web app or the desktop version. This makes it a great tool for collaborating with others on projects.

Gravit Designer

Gravit Designer

Best for: Corel users
Platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, Chrome OS

Gravit Designer is a great free resource for building graphics. It’s owned by the same company as Corel Draw, so if you’re a fan of Corel digital design products, Gravit Designer is definitely worth checking out. While there’s a “PRO” version of the software available for $49 annually, the free version of Gravit Designer should have everything you’ll need to create quality graphics. Plus, you can try the PRO version for free when you first sign up. Just select the free trial period for PRO.

Gravit Designer works online, but you can also download a desktop version of the software. You’ll just have to be connected to the internet to use it for free. When you first get started, you’ll be prompted to create a free account using your email address, name and a password. You won’t have to enter any payment information to use the free version of the software or to try out a trial version of the PRO software.

With the free version of Gravit Designer, you’ll get 500MB of Cloud storage and the ability to export PDF files. Unfortunately, the free version of the software doesn’t allow you to work offline, it doesn’t include touchscreen support or advanced export options, and you can’t see your projects’ version history.

Organize and improve your creativity with these apps for your tablet, phone or desktop. We need graphic designers most when we can’t figure out how to express ourselves: in a presentation, on an ad campaign or for our blog. To make that process smoother.
