Instagram video has rapidly risen to the top of the list of platform features. There are numerous ways to tell a visual story, including in-feed videos, Stories to Reels, and other formats.

Despite the popularity of Instagram videos, not all of them appear on the front page. Different videos have different needs because they serve various purposes.

You must follow the rules if you want your videos to be successful! This necessitates being mindful of the sizing specifications for each type of video.

The Instagram platform currently offers four different video formats. Which are:

  • Instagram Reels
  • In-Feed Videos
  • Instagram Stories
  • Instagram Live

Everything you need to know about Instagram video sizes, dimensions, and formats in 2022 will be covered in this post. Your visual stories will continue to look their best as a result, allowing you to spend more time beating the algorithm.

How Marketers Are Leveraging Video On Instagram

We conducted a survey of more than 1,000 international marketers in 2021 to learn which trends they are currently (and will be leveraging).

The first thing that caught our attention is that marketers who use Instagram video content are 16% more likely to say that their Instagram strategy was successful the previous year.

Additionally, we discovered that 82% of marketers use Instagram to post video content, with video-based content formats being the most popular.

On Instagram, the main distinction between how marketers use video and other content formats is that they use humor more frequently in videos while less frequently promoting goods and services.

Regarding the platform’s features, marketers surveyed claim that posting videos generates the highest ROI and the highest level of engagement, surpassing that of live streaming and images.

The popularity of short-form video, which is at its height on sites like Instagram and TikTok, may have something to do with how popular videos are. In fact, 85% of marketers claim that short-form video is the most successful format they use.

Despite this, only one out of every four marketers uses Reels. When marketers were polled, they claimed that it had one of the lowest ROIs. They still intend to invest in it for this new year, though.

Best Video Format For Instagram

Instagram Video Formats to Use in 2023

1. Instagram Stories

Short 15-second videos called Instagram Stories are only available for 24 hours. In contrast to the more polished in-feed or IGTV marketing videos, ephemeral content has grown to be a popular way to display unpolished, informal, and quirky content. Instagram Stories appear less polished and more authentic.

Instagram Story videos can only be up to 15 seconds long. However, a slideshow narrative lets you make a collection of Stories. In Stories, photos are visible for 7 seconds.

Brands are free to publish as many Stories as they want. Stories videos display in vertical mode, taking up the entire mobile screen, just like TikTok videos do. Emojis, text, and stickers can all be used to enhance your Stories.

Stories are a fantastic way to grab users’ attention and increase brand awareness due to their transient nature. This format takes advantage of FOMO because viewers want to watch the video before it vanishes.

The Economist’s Instagram Stories Case Study
To increase traffic to its website’s articles, The Economist uses Instagram Stories. By asking users to guess details and elements from the most recent news stories in a weekly quiz, they engage users.

The quiz uses a variety of photography and video content, as well as the interactive polling sticker, to create ‘True or False’ type questions or multiple-choice questions asking users to guess the correct fact. The quiz goes live on the same day every week. With eye-catching and unusual statements, each Story draws the audience in, and as each correct response is revealed, they are prompted to “Swipe up” to read the complete article on The Economist website.

2. Instagram Video

This format, which combines IGTV and in-feed videos, was introduced in 2021. This kind of video can be up to an hour long and uploaded using the + sign in the top right-hand corner of the app, just like IGTV videos. Trimming, location tagging, and filters are a few of the new features that have been added. These videos can be found in Instagram’s brand-new “Video” tab.

You must ensure that the first few seconds of the video are engaging to get viewers to watch the entire thing since it appears when someone scrolls through your feed.

To give viewers a preview of longer videos, you can also make 60-second trailers for them.

3. Instagram Live

You can stream live videos to your followers using Instagram Live. Followers have the option of watching live while you stream or later on in a Story.

Live broadcasting requires bravery because there are so many potential problems! Live video is a very engaging format that allows you to be more “authentic” and “in the moment,” so it’s worth giving it a shot. You can expose people to aspects of your company they wouldn’t typically see.

This kind of video is perfect for showcasing a “day in the life” of your brand or workforce as well as brand events, demos, or tours. By asking viewers to leave feedback or ask questions, you can make live videos more interactive.

Even though you don’t want your live video to be overly scripted, careful planning is still required. Make sure your internet connection is strong, and try to make your broadcast as stable, high-resolution, and clear as you can. Additionally, before going live, be certain that your narrative is crystal clear. To engage a potential client or customer, your live video should have a storytelling component.

And if something goes wrong that day, just work the errors into the live performance!

It’s interesting to note that during Covid-19, demand for how-to and tutorial videos increased by 600%, making this Instagram video type a wise choice for marketers when developing their campaigns.

4. Instagram Reels

Reels are Instagram’s interpretation of the TikTok-famous vertical video format. Instagram has produced full-screen, portrait-oriented videos, unlike TikTok.

Multi-clip videos called reels typically last 15 to 30 seconds. Due to the availability of AR filters, timed text, and green screen mode, they are perfect for showcasing highly creative content that uses effects and music.

Users can find Reels in the Explore tab of their Instagram feed or the “Reels” tab on your profile. Younger users, including members of Generation Z and Millennials, are huge fans of reels. It’s crucial for marketers to remember that people can find your Reels without following you on Instagram.

Reusing your TikTok content for Reels can be alluring. Keep in mind, though, that your Instagram followers are probably older than your TikTok fans.

Utilizing Reels, you can include hashtags and product tags while showcasing engaging facets of the brand’s personality. Reels content is frequently viewed by users as being more “authentic” than professional video content.
